REHEARSAL PROCEDURES

Rehearsal time is valuable and every moment must be used with good purpose.  All professional organizations have regulations for rehearsal time, and they are the foundation of our rehearsal procedure.

1.

Warm-up instruments and lip muscles by softly running over scales or warm-up exercises. Percussionists, after adjusting and tuning drums softly, should confine their warm-up to flexing their wrists, using a drum pad and assembling the necessary equipment for the rehearsal.

2.

Secure your music and get situated as quickly as possible. Students are expected to be to class on time and in their seats, ready to perform within three minutes of the bell.  An unexcused tardy will result in detention after school.

3.

When your conductor steps on the podium, all talking and playing should stop at once.  Your full attention should be given to the conductor, and nothing should be allowed to distract you.

  4. When the conductor stops during a rehearsal, everyone must stop playing. A conductor’s job is to teach, interpret and direct, and it is necessary to stop in the middle of a piece in order to do so. Continuing to play or talking after the conductor stops will not be tolerated.

  5. Members should bring the following materials to all rehearsals:
instrument – case – mute – all music – pencil with eraser (to be kept in case at all times)

  6. A student is considered late if, when the conductor steps on the podium, he is not seated in his proper chair with instrument ready to play and music on stand.

  7. No chewing gum will be allowed. This material is very harmful to all instruments.  No food, beverage, or candy allowed in the band room.

  8. The rehearsal rooms and practice rooms should be kept clean and orderly. Keep storage shelves free of trash, waste paper, books, etc. Percussionists should put their equipment away after rehearsal.

  9. When dismissed from rehearsal, it is each student’s responsibility to return music to its proper place and leave the room in a clean and orderly condition.

  10. Proper care of school property and equipment is expected at all times.

  11. All members must have their instruments at every rehearsal.

  12. All school instruments used by students will be taken care of properly. The parent is responsible for any school instrument or music that their child has signed out to take home.
