GRADING

Each student will receive a WEEKLY GRADE, which is based on class preparation, participation, and performance.  For example – if you: come to class with a well-maintained instrument and are in your seat on time (punctuality); are ready to perform and your instrument is accurately tuned; have your band folder, band music, and a pencil; are attentive and demonstrate good rehearsal techniques; are not eating food, chewing gum, or talking; attend all scheduled rehearsals/concerts; have prepared the band literature; function as a group member; display care of your instrument, the sheet music, music stands, chairs and miscellaneous music department equipment.  The average weekly grade becomes a percentage of the interim/quarter grade.

Each student must turn in a PRACTICE RECORD every week signed by both the student and his/her parent/guardian.  The weekly practice grade becomes a percentage of the interim/quarter grade.

Each student will be given Written and Playing QUIZ / TEST  periodically.  All Symphonic Band members are required to audition for All-District XI Band.  This audition will count as a test grade.  The average test grade becomes a percentage of the interim/quarter grade.  When taking playing tests students will be evaluated in any/all of the following areas:

    Expression – Tone – Intonation – Articulation – Phrasing
Rhythm – Dynamics – Accents – Tempo – Accuracy – Memorization

During grading periods when CONCERTS occur students will be graded on preparation, participation, and performance in such events.  For example, if a student reports for the performance with an instrument in proper working condition, proper accessories, music, and other required materials and demonstrates proper concert etiquette, pays attention, and functions appropriately as a group member - to include, correct concert dress, he/she receives an "A" for that concert.  The concert/festival average becomes a percentage of the interim/quarter grade.
