Robert J. Zazzara is Director of Bands at Ormond Stone Middle School in
Fairfax County, Centreville, Virginia, where he teaches Symphonic Band,
Concert II, Concert I, Beginning Band, and Percussion Ensemble. He
received his Bachelor of Music degree in Education from SUNY Fredonia
and a Masters of Music degree in Conducting from Ithaca College, serving
as graduate assistant to Professors Rodney Winther and Grant Cooper.
His conducting studies include clinics and workshops with Frederick
Fennell, Donald Hunsberger, Frank Battisti, Larry Rachleff, Karel Husa,
Ron Nelson, Dana Wilson, Samuel Adler, Neal Zaslaw, Michael Votta, Louis
Buckley, and Don Schleicher. Mr. Zazzara was a member of the
United States Army Band system as a trumpet performer, stationed in
Virginia and Germany. During his 15 years of public school
teaching in New York and Virginia, Zazzara is on staff at the
Centreville Summer Band Camp, was the lead instructor at the Eastern
U.S. Music Camp at Colgate University and Bristol Hills Music Camp, has
been the assistant conductor of the Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra,
has instructed the Steel City Ambassadors Drum and Bugle Corps, and is
an active clinician and festival adjudicator. He has guest
conducted New York All-County Band Festivals in Orange, Madison,
Cattaraugus, Chenango, and Oswego County. Mr. Zazzara was awarded
the Mid-Atlantic Wind Conductors' Conference "Outstanding Conductor
Award" and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce "Excellence in
Education Award."
